A Few Of Your Minutes Could Help Troops Receive Care Packages
By unitedweroll on Jul 7, 2010 | In Military News and Support
Chase Bank is currently running a donation contest on Facebook in which The Hugs Project Inc is competing. A group must be in the top 200 to receive a portion of prize money. To be at the top, would be a huge win. WITH YOUR HELP, The Hugs Project Inc might just make it to the top of the list! You can only vote once.
Only a few days are left as the voting ends midnight 7/12. This contest is being run on Facebook. Hugs really needs the money to help with the care package supplies and postage. As you can see by the information below from Karen Stark, this organization has been hard at work for 6 years providing thousands of care packages to young men and women who are deployed to areas where they do not even have access to base stores or facilities.
Please ask your friends and families to vote for The Hugs Project Inc on the Facebook page BEFORE Midnight Monday, July 12th.
You can also find the link to vote on our Facebook page at www.Facebook.com/UnitedWeRoll. Look for the Blue Hand Logo!
Below is the info that I received from Karen Stark at The Hugs Project Inc.
From Karen Stark/The Hugs Project Inc -
The Hugs Project has been hard at work for the past 6 years (since June 2004) sending cooling ties and care packages for the troops and sewing machines, warm childrens' hat (winter months), school supplies and school bags that the troops share with the locals as part of their hearts and minds project.
Like most nonprofits, right now, we're struggling to find funding and without funding, we'll have to close our doors just like other small troop support groups before us. You know our troops depend on the care packages, supplies and respect we provide them. So, for us to close would be a very bad thing.
We're competing in a contest on Facebook with Chase Bank and we're trying to win $20,000 so that we can send 4,000 Christmas care packages. Our postage bill last year on 3,855 was over $44,000 and the USPS has increased the price since then.
What your listeners would need to do is open a browser to Facebook/ChaseCommunityGiving and do a search for The Hugs Project. Once on our page, they would "LIKE" Chase, then click "VOTE NOW" and "SHARE WITH FRIENDS". It only takes about a minute to vote if already have a Facebook account and about 3, if they don't.
Thank You, Stardust Family!
America - One Nation Under God with Freedom For All For 234 Years
By unitedweroll on Jul 7, 2010 | In Military News and Support
I received this piece in an email and felt it should be shared with all.
Following is a journey by an unknown author that appropriately describes "One Nation Under God" for the past 234 years.
I WAS BORN on July 4, 1776, and the Declaration of Independence is my Birth Certificate. The bloodlines of the world run in my veins, because I offered freedom to the oppressed. I am many things, and many people. I am One Nation Under God.
I am Nathan Hale and Paul Revere. I stood at Lexington and fired the shots heard around the world. I am Washington, Jefferson and Patrick Henry. I am John Paul Jones, the Green Mountain Boys and Davy Crockett. I am Generals Lee and Grant and President Abe Lincoln.
I remember the Alamo in Texas and Battleship Arizona in Pearl Harbor. When Freedom called I answered and stayed until it was over --- over there. I left my heroic dead in Flanders Fields, on the barren rocks of the Pacific, on the frozen slopes of Korea, the steaming jungles of Vietnam, cities of Iraq and mountainous Afghanistan.
I am the Brooklyn Bridge, the wheat lands of Kansas and the granite hills of Vermont. I am the coalfields of the Virginias, the fertile lands of the Midwest, the Golden Gate and the Grand Canyon. I am Independence Hall, the warships Monitor and Merrimac.
I am big. I sprawl from the Atlantic to the Pacific --- my arms reach out to embrace Alaska and Hawaii --- three million square miles of industry. I am more than five million farms. I am forests, lakes, fields, mountains and deserts. I am quiet towns and cities that never sleep.
You can look at me and see Ben Franklin walking down the streets of Philadelphia with his bread-loaf under his arm. You can see Betsy Ross with her needle. You can see the lights of Christmas, and hear the strains of "Auld Lang Syne" as the calendar turns.
I am Babe Ruth and the World Series. I am free schools and private colleges, and most of all, tens of thousands of churches where my people worship God as they think best. I am a ballot dropped in a box, the roar of a crowd in a stadium and the voice of a choir in a cathedral. I am an editorial in a newspaper and a letter to a Congressman.
I am Eli Whitney, Thomas Edison, Albert Einstein and Billy Graham. I am Horace Greeley, Will Rogers and the Wright Brothers. I am George Washington Carver, Daniel Webster and Jonas Salk. I am Longfellow, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Walt Whitman, Thomas Paine, John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King and President Ronald Reagan.
Yes, I am the NATION, and these are the things that I am. I was conceived in FREEDOM and God willing in FREEDOM I will spend the rest of my days.
May I possess always the integrity, courage and strength to keep myself unshackled from wickedness. And remain a CITADEL of FREEDOM, a BEACON of HOPE to the world and a place where GOD IS REVERED, LIFTED UP AND FREELY WORSHIPPED.
Yes, this is who I am for so many years since my birth as I placed MY TRUST IN GOD.
Happy Birthday, America!
